Question #5: If President Obama and Congress decide to reduce the deficit by reducing spending on federal programs, what would you like to see happen to Medicare?

For Question 5, 32% of respondents favor major spending reductions and 32% favor minor spending reductions. 36% favored no spending reductions.

Question #6: As it is currently funded, how much longer do you estimate that Medicare will be able to support its beneficiaries (at the rate it currently does)?

For Question 6, 9% believe it will be less than 5 years, 26% estimate 5-10 years, 29% estimate 11-20 years, and 7% estimate more than 20 years. 34% are unsure.

Question #8: Would you consider yourself to have a high level, adequate level, or low level of understanding about Medicare?

For Question 8, 48% of respondents have at least an adequate understanding about Medicare. 48% have a low understanding, and 3% are unsure.

Question #7: Would you be interested (or more interested) in learning about Medicare through a social media campaign (e.g., Facebook, Twitter, Wordpress), a website managed by the
federal government, both, or neither?

For Question 7, 26% indicated a social media campaign, 11% indicated a federal government website, and 41% would like both. 8% indicated neither, 7% are unsure, and 7% have no opinion.

This 13- question poll was conducted between April 18 and 28, 2013 by The Medicare Gap through an online survey distributed by Survey Monkey. The criteria for assessment was the survey being completed in its entirety. The sample size was 61. The margin of error is +/- 12.53%. The results are not weighted.
